A New Year has arrived...
Susie Larsson
Last year was a year of change, travel and transformation. I am sure this happens to everybody, so this is nothing extraordinary.
My year started out with a show in January, which happens very, very rarely. January and the end of December are usually a perfect time for me to get sick! and to recover and recuperate and think and plan for the upcoming year. Application deadlines can sometimes be as far out as six months away, and always exciting to look forward into a new year that hasn't actually begun yet.
Before leaving for Arizona, I made sure to purchase a bike rack so my bike would become a great source of exploration for me. The first road trip down to Tubac, Arizona in February was fantastic. Rolling around on my bike proved to be a new way to freedom. Of course, I did get a flat tire on the last day before I was to return to Washington State.
Last year I had the opportunity to travel to Arizona, twice, spending an entire month in March, returning to the Pacific Northwest in time to see the tulip fields in full bloom. I stayed around my home until August when I travelled to Sun Valley, Idaho for a show. I was able to experience my first-time in a natural hot springs, just up the road from where I was staying. At the end of August, I was on my way to Colorado, for the first time. I have always wanted to go and was not disappointed with the immense natural beauty and the friendly people who live there.
At the end of September, I chose to drive to Minot, North Dakota for their huge Scandinavian festival. It was a beautiful drive through northern Montana. The wide open spaces and beautful nature was tempting.
In October, my family flew to Maui for a 2-week vacation. This was fantastic. Why I don't live on a tropical island, I don't know!? Back to the reality of the late fall and winter in the Pacific Northwest and plans for 2018.
In two weeks, I will be flying with my Dad to Minneapolis, Minnesota so he can meet his cross-country skiing friends who come from all over Europe and mostly Sweden.
In February, I will be heading again to Tubac, Arizona and then back again in the beginning of March for the Scottsdale Arts Festival. I am looking forward to the dry, warm, sunny days.
This will be my first year to participate in one of the ACC SHOWS. I was accepted into the American Craft Council St. Paul Show which will take place the weekend of my birthday and Earth Day! This will be a fantastic trip, I am hoping.
See you soon!
